2001 From Swampland to Sanctuary
In 2001, the land that is now Colonial Country Club was untouched swampland. That changed when Pulte Homes broke ground on their first master-planned community in Southwest Florida. Streets, a vibrant community center, and a beautiful golf course soon took shape, bringing the vision to life. Streets were etched out of the wilderness, and before long, a vibrant community began to rise from the untouched land.
2003 Golf takes shape
Even before homes dotted the landscape, the heart of Colonial Country Club – the Championship Golf Course – was already taking shape. Designed by the legendary architect Gordon Lewis, the par-72 masterpiece opened its fairways in early 2003. Golfers flocked to experience its perfect balance of challenge and beauty, and the course quickly earned its place as a standout feature in the community, captivating players and elevating Colonial's reputation.
2004 Colonial's official inception
By late 2004, Colonial's grand clubhouse and restaurant opened, quickly becoming the heart of the community's social life. Pulte Homes offered every homebuyer a complimentary social membership—no initiation fees or minimums—inviting residents to immediately enjoy dining, events, and activities. Colonial soon became more than a place to live; it was a vibrant lifestyle destination. By 2006 Colonial was firmly established as a warm and welcoming sanctuary.
2008 Weathering the Storm
In 2008, Colonial Country Club opened select facilities to the public, inviting non-members to enjoy its events and dining to strengthen community ties. At the same time, delays from the housing boom and a shifting market led to a surplus of homes, as many buyers walked away from their investments. Despite the challenges, Colonial stayed true to its mission, adapting while remaining a valued part of the Fort Myers community.
2015 Enhancements Define a New Era
A major clubhouse renovation in 2015 added a popular open-air patio and reinforced its role as the social center of the Club. Racquet sports thrived with 8 Har-Tru courts and the addition of 8 pickleball courts by 2017, while new bocce courts and leagues fostered friendly competition and connection. With a renovated pool, a well-equipped Fitness Center, and the peaceful Preserve, Colonial remains committed to offering exceptional amenities and an active, welcoming lifestyle.
2024 Colonial celebrates 20 Years
In recent years, Colonial has introduced numerous upgrades to enhance member satisfaction. The Community and Fitness Center lobby was renovated, landscaping refreshed, and the entire community equipped with high-speed fiber-optic internet. A $6.5 million clubhouse renovation in 2020 added indoor and outdoor dining, a new bar, expanded event space, and a larger kitchen. After 20 years of progress, Colonial remains committed to continuous improvement for years to come.
